(Edit: This streamer has changed their username in the time since I wrote this post. I will not replace the cover image, but know that “MrSkysenGames” no longer exists on Twitch.)
Streaming!
An entity of unknown origins. A species that fluctuates forms to its will.
In early April, I had a nostalgic hankering for Animal Crossing—the OG title, not New Horizons. Searching the category on Twitch, I saw an unusual symbol: a striking “S” with a jagged exterior. Intrigued, I clicked and was met with another striking image: a cute little white dog in an Eastern-style bowl. From this dog came a voice; a booming, powerful voice unlike those I’ve heard before.
It fished. It ran around. It hit things with reckless abandon. By the end, it was only a taste, yet the alluring presence of this mythical being ended up pulling my hand towards the follow button. It didn’t even do anything; the player played and the viewer viewed. As it should be.
Introducing MrSkysen. (← Link to their Twitch channel.)
Fish!
To describe Skysen is to describe something without presence. Skysen simply lingers, popping up on the Twitch (and other) platform(s) at times determined by its order. Almost akin to a feeling, a belief that it exists because you wish it so. It feeds upon the pleasure that only gaming can provide; viewers can only gaze upon the complexity of its style.
An amusing thing, remarking on the general things of a moving picture with undeterred blankness. A character shouts, “You shall die!” to which Skysen replies, “I don’t want to!” Its character falls underwater, struggling to stay afloat. “Help! I cannot swim,” it bemoans. Until it surfaces—”Okay, I’m fine.” A fine display of valor!
Also among the most appealing voices on my list of followed streamers. Quite bass-y, with a sort of mellow tone done at all times. Like a brainy bud with a hand on the chin, just on the brink of an epiphany, only it never comes. Even authoritative at times, as though all that occurs is of the utmost importance. Except Skysen is also very humorous. So really, it’s just gobbledygook.
Punch!
My presence within streams is something of a curious squirrel nestled on the branch of a bustling tree. I run around and interact with it, though what does a tree need with a squirrel? A courteous acknowledgement of its being there, just before going back to being a tree. Doing tree things. Powerfully! Such vigor is enough to have me toss messages in chat that have a 50-50 shot of being either ignored completely or read eight minutes after being sent. Magnificent focus on the game at hand!
Skysen does not play by the rules of humanity. I am not “Kapo-daco” to it; I am “the Kapo-daco!” Other chat members are “the [name]!” All named person or things are but objects to the sight of Skysen, referred to as simple tools for play and amusement. Get me the controller? Get me the Kapo-daco! I have become a non-integral specimen by the boundaries of the universe! I am welcome in every Skysen stream by becoming a single asteroid in the belt of absurdity.
Slice!
Coming into contact with a MrSkysen stream feels as though you’ve stepped into a parallel dimension. Everything is the same, only three inches to the left of where they should be. Your eyes have become unbalanced; your brain is functioning slightly more objectively! Listen to the siren song of Skysen’s voice as it tells you all you need to know about specific creatures in The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. Keep your eyebrows on straight. It will ask you about them.
What does Skysen play? Games! What does it play specifically? Fun games! What are the names of some of these fun games? My Time at Portia, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Subnautica, various Sonic the Hedgehog titles, and a variety of indie titles! It’s really quite random! This fascinating thing can play games of many genres and tones, but one thing’s for sure: it’ll be really fun!
I mentioned prior that I know Skysen mostly as a dog in a bowl (or “pup in a cup”). However, the physical manifestation of this oddly oddity can vary to be many different things. A fancy slug! A white (like this blog’s background) human with a mustache! Something else I’m not aware of because I cannot comprehend it! Its power lies in the obscurity it possesses; that the audience knows nothing and questions nothing as it plays games and shouts triumphant actions.
Huzzah!
If you’ve come this far with furrowed brow, that is precisely what you should have! Skysen is a majestic embodiment of the streaming form: a pleasing voice with adequate gaming skill! All else is precisely what you make of it; whatever you think Skysen may look like, however it may behave, or what it does in its spare time, you’re likely correct! Even if you change your answer tomorrow, you’re still right! All that is certain is that Skysen streams, and that you are watching.
Take it from me, a Skysen Bison, to tell you how to live your life and properly watch streams. It’s a lovely foray into bombast and minimalistic theatrics!
