I Played “General Manager Mode” in Madden NFL 12—Here’s How I Fared

I realize the audience for this specific post is tremendously low, but this is something of a journey that I’m quite pleased with. After watching Jon Bois and Kofie Yeboah destroy the NBA with horrible players, I was inspired to do something similar, but without the intentional sabotage. Playing Madden 12 for as long as I have, it finally clicked upon watching the aforementioned video: I like playing football, but I love creating football. I love assembling the teams, creating the scenarios, and doing all I can to improve every position. Think of it like those auto-chess games, where you establish the setting and plan for what’s ahead, then let the AI handle all else. I did just that, only with Madden 12. An Ode to Jon Bois

I am writing this about twelve hours removed from reading 17776 for the first time. To some, this may seem like Bois’s most definitive work, considering the scale of the work and the reception it garners to this day. I’ve watched his works for years, whether on the SB Nation website or Youtube, but never took the deep dive into this grand-scale tale until recently. Hard to say why—a desire to enjoy easy-going, non-challenging content, or the pressure of gripping onto something that will guarantee some soul-searching by the end. Revisiting the First Round of the 2012 NFL Draft – Hit, Bust, or Fair

(This post was heavily inspired by NFL Films’ “Hit, Miss, or Meh” video covering the 2009 NFL Draft. I altered it slightly to suit my fancy.)

I began watching the NFL in 2011, after Super Bowl XLV sowed the seeds of football fanaticism within my soul. Even so, my experiences in 2011 were limited to only a few games later on in the season, and nothing substantial during the preceding offseason. It wasn’t until 2012 that I began following the sport even when it was off—the scouting combine, free agency, the draft, and whatever else. For this reason, I wanted to take the opportunity to elaborate on the players of the first round in the first NFL Draft I’ve ever seen unfold live as a young and starving enthusiast. Ranking the Arena Football League’s New Uniforms

I don’t consider myself a fashion designer by any means, but I would jump at the chance to design some uniforms for various football teams. Where my adoration for football occasionally wanes with the seasons, my taste for sweet football threads is almost ashamedly immovable. Just recently, the Arena Football League announced they were partnering with Phenom to supply the league’s uniforms, and they showed them off all at once. I was casually browsing Youtube last night, looking for some mindless entertainment to pass the time. While productivity is always good, sometimes there’s no better alternative than to give the brain a full-blown rest. On a whim, I decide to check the NFL Films Youtube account, and lo and behold, they uploaded a new Top 10 video since the last time I checked. Mindless entertainment no more: I was partaking in NFL history. Whether or not this constitutes as “productive” is up to the individual to decide. Far More People Watch Highlights of AAF Games Than Attend AAF Games

Through three weeks, the Alliance of American Football has put up, in my own opinion, a pretty commendable product. The games are typically close, and while they aren’t point-fests, plenty of big plays permeate the games that occur each weekend. Just last night, San Diego Fleet running back Ja’Quan Gardner pulled off an 83-yard touchdown run, the longest play in the AAF thus far as well as the longest play in its short history. It was a great, exciting play, which many saw happen… from the comfort of their homes, on Youtube, or on the official AAF website. How Much Should an NFL Player’s Character Play into Their Legacy?

Antonio Brown has made his mark on the NFL over the course of his entire career. With 11,207 receiving yards in nine seasons, he’s proven to be one of the most dangerous receiving threats in NFL history, which is made more amazing by the fact that he was a sixth-round draft pick. Based on performance alone, should he retire tomorrow, there’s considerable argument that he could make the Hall of Fame, and that he’s the best wide receiver the Pittsburgh Steelers have had in their rich history. This makes it all the more troubling—specifically for Steelers fans—considering the present circumstances, which has Brown and the team heading into an ugly divorce.
