Ranking the Oscars 2020 Best Picture Candidates

oscars 2020 cover

This is historically the part where I provide a disclaimer that I haven’t seen every film nominated for Best Picture. That will not change today… however, I have seen nearly all of them. Only Ford v Ferrari is left unwatched, mostly because I think it looks boring. Apologies to those that adored it, but cars and people who like cars are not my preferred subject matter. (Don’t ever invite me to watch Fast & Furious.) Continue reading “Ranking the Oscars 2020 Best Picture Candidates”

My Day(s) in Gaming – January 22nd-23rd, 2020

switch controller

Decided to update the cover image for these posts since the Switch is my preferred console of choice (when not reviewing games on Steam). The first post of the new year, and yet I still find myself playing older or indie games. It’s almost like I don’t like the current state of the mainstream gaming industry! Hahaha! Sebastian Maniscalco Shamed Me Into Washing My Feet (Then Disappeared for a Decade)

2020 is already shaping up to be a pretty bizarre year for me. Barely over a week in, a couple of strange coincidences have occurred that have histories spanning a long number of years that I felt would make for good writing material. This will not be the kind of post I typically write for this blog, but it’s a new decade. Why not try out some peculiar filler prose to exercise my creative tendencies? I’m Going to Watch a Lot of Anime in December (of 2019)

source

I adore Winter. I love the quiet ambience as snow accumulates onto the ground. The stillness of the air and the growing desire to cozy oneself in warmed isolation away from the frozen outdoors, as if to not disturb its careful process. Some may look at the cover gif and see some Gothic picture in waiting, but to me, it’s almost spiritual in its beauty. October is Halloween, November is Thanksgiving, and December is Christmas—white, frosty, cheery Christmas vibes all the way through.

Since the demise of my cherished Summer of Anime block, I’ve done nothing of a similar vein for the anime medium since. This year, that will be different. I’ve decided that I’m going to be watching anime—a lot of it—throughout the month of December. Why? Because December is magical and so is anime. And I want to. I Played “General Manager Mode” in Madden NFL 12—Here’s How I Fared

madden 12 gm mode header

I realize the audience for this specific post is tremendously low, but this is something of a journey that I’m quite pleased with. After watching Jon Bois and Kofie Yeboah destroy the NBA with horrible players, I was inspired to do something similar, but without the intentional sabotage. Playing Madden 12 for as long as I have, it finally clicked upon watching the aforementioned video: I like playing football, but I love creating football. I love assembling the teams, creating the scenarios, and doing all I can to improve every position. Think of it like those auto-chess games, where you establish the setting and plan for what’s ahead, then let the AI handle all else. I did just that, only with Madden 12. My Official Fire Emblem: Three Houses Character Tier List

three houses image

Everyone, this game has exceeded all expectations of mine. Fire Emblem: Three Houses has, at this point, consumed 250+ hours of my life since receiving the game a few days after release. Notice how my blog’s been pretty quiet since late July? Yeah. You all have no idea how much I held back, too. For the sake of not oversaturating the marketplace, I refrained from making a hundred posts on this game—I certainly could have (and still can). A “totally 100% final thoughts on three houses” post has been in the planning stages for The Visualist’s Veranda for weeks, but never came to fruition because, well, my thoughts on the game keep changing!

But this? This is relatively concrete. I wanted to share a little more about this cute little title by highlighting its characters. Continue reading “My Official Fire Emblem: Three Houses Character Tier List”

A Long, Spoiler-rific Gushing of Fire Emblem: Three Houses

three houses gush post cover

90 hours. That is the amount of time I have spent on Fire Emblem: Three Houses since receiving it on July 30th. Mathematically, this would mean I have averaged (not including today) 8.2 hours per day dedicated to playing this game. It would not be hyperbole to say that this title has destroyed my motivation to indulge in other interests. Three Houses has become something of a very special experience to me, every aspect considered. What better way to come back from a near-month-long (not planned) hiatus from the Visualist’s Veranda than with a post dedicated to highlighting my thoughts on a game that has thrown me completely off my typical routine. A Collection of Anime OPs/EDs I Actually Like (Volume Two)

anime osts 1

This is not going to be like my normal posts here on VV. Normally, I have something to say about a particular topic and express it with the most pretentious vocabulary. Instead, today will be a sort of “show off” post where I simply list some anime EDs/OPs I’ve found myself bopping my head to since anime corrupted my soul. I’ll link to each theme so the viewer can also take a listen while I offer short descriptions of the track and what I like about them.
