Summer of Anime Archive

[Edit: As of the end of 2018, the Summer of Anime block has been retired due to a lack of motivation to continue it. I cannot believe it took me this long to throw up this disclaimer.]

For those unaware, I celebrate my return to the world of colorful, busty women with The Summer of Anime every year on June 1st. It ends when I’ve watched a total of 25 titles or the date has reached my birthday, August 20th, whichever comes first. Typically, I get to 25 titles before that date (way before then, honestly), as I like to see it as a competition of speed, while also partaking in the medium I’ve grown to cherish. There are stipulations I place upon myself during each Summer of Anime, which I will note below now:

  • Unless the episode count is too daunting, if I choose to watch an anime with multiple seasons, I have to watch every episode up to the point where the series ends or has had adapted to an anime.
    • Sequel OVAs do not count.
  • If I go past the halfway point of an anime’s episode count, I cannot drop it.
  • I am allowed to place any title on-hold in order to move on to another title.
    • However, the new title is not allowed to be placed on-hold. After finishing or dropping, I must go back to the title I originally had on-hold.
  • I am given a total of five allowed drops.
  • The Summer of Anime only includes anime series. No movies, no specials, no one-shot OVAs.
    • Qualifications for anime series is a minimum of six episodes of at least twenty-minutes of content, or twelve episodes of at least ten-minutes of content. Maximum set is whatever I choose, but I typically draw the line at 50 episodes.
  • Unless dictated by my own schedule beforehand, I cannot re-watch any past anime.
    • In addition, I am not allowed to watch any non-ongoing anime on the side. This does not include OVAs or films.
  • I may only watch one anime title at a time, as a few notes above implied.

In 2015, I had altered it to “The Summer of Manga” for a change of pace and to combat a stagnant interest in anime at the time. Most of the rules above applied, but there were a few changes made overall, such as 30 titles instead of 25.

Below I will make a record of every title viewed and the scores I had attached to them at the time of their viewing. My impressions of these titles back then may not reflect my opinion of them now, but I like to keep a record of not only my history with this event, but how my tastes and expectations with anime have evolved along the way (as you’ll be able to tell with more negative ratings the longer it goes on).
