Adieu, adieu; parting is such sweet sorrow. Aharen-san‘s anime adaptation has come to an end, and I no longer need to keep up with weekly reviews for the blog. As such, I can now be completely open with my full thoughts and feelings without any measure of future content adjusting my course:

Influenced by the events of the last near-month, I am not going to take any chances. I’m going to watch and write on these episodes at a relatively quick pace from now on… even though there’s only a single episode left after this one.
After an incredibly emotional (and ambiguous) end to the prior episode, episode eleven of Aharen-san returns the viewer to the semi-absurd monotony that the series has followed since the beginning. To its credit, some return to normalcy (relative term) could be good after the high-drama detour taken. Still, there’s a strange effect from the result of the main duo’s deepening relationship that imbues this episode (and likely the next) with a coat of alienation.

What an eventful last couple weeks it has been. My sincere apologies for the delay in reviewing these episodes. It seems to have been ordained by some higher power that I am not deserving of gaining access to a workable laptop computer. Nevertheless, I will spare you the details and simply get on to what you’re more likely here for.
Seeing as I have three episodes here to review, I will split these up into groups and review them individually (but won’t go into too much detail). As will become obvious when the reviews begin, the relevancy of these episodes will heavily depend on their recency.

It’s a double whammy of unfortunate circumstances this week for me. My laptop troubles are continuing to haunt me (long story), and on top of that, some cold-like symptoms have found refuge within since the beginning of the week. So I’m writing this with limited battery capacity and limited nostril clearance.
This, combined with the contents of Aharen-san‘s seventh episode itself, will force me to keep this rather curt.

As an apology for being so late last time, this week’s review will be out pretty early… relatively speaking. The episode released yesterday, so while I could have written on it then, I wanted to have my last post settle to give readers a chance to look at it. Two days is long enough, though.
We’re… well, I’m going to assume we’re at the halfway point of Aharen-san‘s anime adaptation. This doesn’t seem like something that would be two-cour, but an official episode count hasn’t been confirmed yet. Currently, it’s been rather disappointing. One of five episodes have shown any potential of living up to its fast-paced, chaotic manga source. Does the sixth episode fare any better? Uhhh… mildly?

Hello, everyone. Please accept my apologies for being so late with this week’s episodic review of Aharen-san. My laptop troubles have been a consistent theme for the last week-ish, and keeping it alive for even a modicum of time was impossible. However, things seem to have settled for the better, at least for now. Unfortunately, the anime I returned to did not get the memo from the prior episode.
Indeed, we have reverted back into the quality of entertainment more reminiscent of the mediocrity seen in episodes 1-3. Not even an admittedly very cute ending scene could do much for episode five’s overall worth to me.

Hello! I realize I have returned way earlier than I claimed I would. As it turns out, the wait time for delivery for my new laptop battery came way ahead of schedule. My trusty typing machine, now recovered, is ready to churn out more written content on series I am only passively enjoying.
Wasting no time, Aharen-san‘s third episode provides very little different from what the first two episodes already established. Raidou and Aharen are pretty goofy and are just a wee bit too close to one another physically, even if not emotionally. It seems that, for the moment, they are going to ride that very simple premise all the way to the end.

Have you noticed that I have a certain theme when it comes to picking cover images? I just like when Aharen and Raidou are close. In this case, it’s funnier.
Aharen-san‘s second episode was slightly within the realm of what I expected as a follow-up to the debut. While they did introduce a new character into the mix, she did not take up a majority of the episode’s runtime (thankfully). Nevertheless, the somewhat lackluster aura that transfixed itself to the prior episode is back here in full force.

Long ago, in the distant time of September of 2013, I started this blog under the name “Criticism & Thoughts.” Throughout the years, I’ve discussed a large number of visually based mediums and topics, but one thing I never did—either out of spite or laziness or both—was dedicate myself to reviewing an ongoing anime episodically as it released… outside of when I collaborated with someone.
That was then and this is now. Completely on a whim, as many of my decisions are, I decided to start my very first episodic reviewing journey with Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, a topic I am also currently reading in manga form. As it is my first time doing this (alone), I have no idea how I will structure these posts or how much detail I will go into. Let’s find out together!
