Top 20 Best Films of the 2010-19 Decade

top 20 best films 2010-19 decade cover

Watching films as a hobby isn’t quite as highlighted on my blog as anime, but in all honesty, I almost prefer it. More vast of a history behind it, typically shorter amount of time spent, and the indie scene is far more rewarding. According to my letterboxd profile, I’ve logged 397 films since January of 2015, around five years ago. That’s a much higher rate than the 450 anime I’ve logged since mid-2012. As such, I felt I could add to another discussion of the best films I’ve seen this decade, even if I started somewhat late. As always, this is a personal list and I have not seen everything. If an omission upsets you, make your own list. Continue reading “Top 20 Best Films of the 2010-19 Decade”

Top 20 Best Anime of the 2010-19 Decade

top 20 best anime decade cover

It only seems appropriate for me, as compartmentalized my mindset is, to indulge myself in extravagant lists of opined flavor. I’ve seen numerous publications do “decade lists” that note the best of various subjects throughout this soon to be disintegrated ten-year stretch. That essence of finality is intoxicating to me, so I decided I want to do it, too. What better way to start than with the medium I have paid careful attention to (to various degrees over time) for the last seven-plus years? These are the twenty anime series I consider to be better than the rest. And as always, this is a personal list and I have not seen every anime ever. If an omission upsets you that greatly, make your own list. Continue reading “Top 20 Best Anime of the 2010-19 Decade”

Top 10 Most Impactful Game Soundtracks of My Childhood

top 10 most impactful game soundtracks cover deluxe

Last night as I was toiling away at work, a certain track invaded my headspace. Alluring and uplifting, it gave way to the creative flow that churned my mind to focus better, and it expanded to other tracks that made me feel similarly. All led to the realization that I have not spoken much about music on this blog, aside from the yearly SiIvagunner Top 10’s. And nostalgia with video games is something I (secretly?) find immensely enamoring. Continue reading “Top 10 Most Impactful Game Soundtracks of My Childhood”

Yugami-kun ni wa Tomodachi ga Inai – Solitude’s Strengths (and Weaknesses)

yugami-kun cover

Note: Yugami-kun ni wa Tomodachi ga Inai has not finished scanlating at the time of this writing. That in mind, note that my overall reflection of the piece’s quality may change (slightly) upon the release of the final chapters. With 79 of 81 chapters released, however, any major feelings are unlikely to change. Continue reading “Yugami-kun ni wa Tomodachi ga Inai – Solitude’s Strengths (and Weaknesses)”

A Long, Spoiler-rific Gushing of Fire Emblem: Three Houses

three houses gush post cover

90 hours. That is the amount of time I have spent on Fire Emblem: Three Houses since receiving it on July 30th. Mathematically, this would mean I have averaged (not including today) 8.2 hours per day dedicated to playing this game. It would not be hyperbole to say that this title has destroyed my motivation to indulge in other interests. Three Houses has become something of a very special experience to me, every aspect considered. What better way to come back from a near-month-long (not planned) hiatus from the Visualist’s Veranda than with a post dedicated to highlighting my thoughts on a game that has thrown me completely off my typical routine. Continue reading “A Long, Spoiler-rific Gushing of Fire Emblem: Three Houses”

Top 10 NFL Uniforms (2019 Edition)

nfl uniform post cover

As I’ve made apparent in my last post ranking football uniforms, I quite like looking at colorful clothing made for sports gladiators. The vivid display of war paint to signify the identity of each team is something I find very inspiring. What better way to show my appreciation for my NFL obsession than to pick out the best colors the league has had to offer? Continue reading “Top 10 NFL Uniforms (2019 Edition)”

Top 10 Games I’m Looking Forward to Post-E3 2019

nintendo e3 2019 1

When I was publishing every day, I was prideful in trying to varietize my posts so that one topic didn’t seem to take priority. This is no longer the case: I’m in a pretty rigid video game craze right now. Post E3, it’s only strengthened my desire to play and play some more, especially after seeing all the big companies had in store for the future. To release some of this energy, I thought I’d do a Top 10 list of the games I’m most looking forward to post-E3. Continue reading “Top 10 Games I’m Looking Forward to Post-E3 2019”

Norm of the North Actually Got a Sequel and It’s Glorious

norm two cover

I watched Norm of the North with my brother early last month, perfectly aware of the reputation it has as one of the worst animated films in the existence of time (that’s the magic, really). While it was definitely very bad, I didn’t find it to be as bad as everyone else seemed to think it was; merely an inadequate picture with really unfunny jokes and a juvenile storyline. Upon finishing it, I made the horrifying discovery that a sequel actually existed, and thus, the search for “terribad” content continued forward.

And by the power vested in me as a purveyor of terribad content, Norm of the North: Keys to the Kingdom is an exquisite masterpiece. Continue reading “Norm of the North Actually Got a Sequel and It’s Glorious”
