I Played “General Manager Mode” in Madden NFL 12—Here’s How I Fared

I realize the audience for this specific post is tremendously low, but this is something of a journey that I’m quite pleased with. After watching Jon Bois and Kofie Yeboah destroy the NBA with horrible players, I was inspired to do something similar, but without the intentional sabotage. Playing Madden 12 for as long as I have, it finally clicked upon watching the aforementioned video: I like playing football, but I love creating football. I love assembling the teams, creating the scenarios, and doing all I can to improve every position. Think of it like those auto-chess games, where you establish the setting and plan for what’s ahead, then let the AI handle all else. I did just that, only with Madden 12. Top 10 NFL Uniforms (2019 Edition)

Revisiting the First Round of the 2012 NFL Draft – Hit, Bust, or Fair

(This post was heavily inspired by NFL Films’ “Hit, Miss, or Meh” video covering the 2009 NFL Draft. I altered it slightly to suit my fancy.)

I began watching the NFL in 2011, after Super Bowl XLV sowed the seeds of football fanaticism within my soul. Even so, my experiences in 2011 were limited to only a few games later on in the season, and nothing substantial during the preceding offseason. It wasn’t until 2012 that I began following the sport even when it was off—the scouting combine, free agency, the draft, and whatever else. For this reason, I wanted to take the opportunity to elaborate on the players of the first round in the first NFL Draft I’ve ever seen unfold live as a young and starving enthusiast. An Ode to NFL Films’ Top 10 Series

I was casually browsing Youtube last night, looking for some mindless entertainment to pass the time. While productivity is always good, sometimes there’s no better alternative than to give the brain a full-blown rest. On a whim, I decide to check the NFL Films Youtube account, and lo and behold, they uploaded a new Top 10 video since the last time I checked. Mindless entertainment no more: I was partaking in NFL history. Whether or not this constitutes as “productive” is up to the individual to decide. How Much Should an NFL Player’s Character Play into Their Legacy?

Antonio Brown has made his mark on the NFL over the course of his entire career. With 11,207 receiving yards in nine seasons, he’s proven to be one of the most dangerous receiving threats in NFL history, which is made more amazing by the fact that he was a sixth-round draft pick. Based on performance alone, should he retire tomorrow, there’s considerable argument that he could make the Hall of Fame, and that he’s the best wide receiver the Pittsburgh Steelers have had in their rich history. This makes it all the more troubling—specifically for Steelers fans—considering the present circumstances, which has Brown and the team heading into an ugly divorce. Top 10 NFL Players Who Have Earned a Championship, but Probably Won’t Get One (2019 Edition)

About five years ago, I wrote a piece on then-current NFL players who most deserved a championship win on their resume based on their on-field performance, but were unlikely to get one due to their team’s success or their current age. Since then, seven of the ten players I included onto the list have retired—only one of them ended up getting a Super Bowl ring. With an ongoing game such as the NFL, revisions are necessary in order to keep lists interesting and current, honoring players for their craft while also instilling a sense of history. Nick Foles Won’t Flourish Without a Great System

With the exception of Jim Plunkett and Earl Morrall, Nick Foles is likely the greatest back-up quarterback of all time, and I would argue the best back-up quarterback of the twenty-first century. For whatever reason, the Philadelphia Eagles of 2017 and 2018 played tremendously well when he was under center, but his natural talent and skillset as a quarterback pales in comparison to incumbent starter Carson Wentz. Because of this, Foles will probably test free agency this offseason, much to the chagrin of hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans who adore him as a hero for defeating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
