Commencing the 2020 March of the Movies

For those unaware, three years ago I started an annual tradition called March of the Movies, where I watch a film every day for the month of March and write reviews for them on the blog for people to peruse. The premise will be the same as it was last year: I watch a film at any part of a particular day and will release some sort of review, whether fully detailed or comically short, in that same specific day. I promise to kick myself into writing them far before 11:59 P.M.

As per my schedule with work and otherwise, one should expect my weekdays to be filled with longer, detailed reviews fairly early in the day, while weekends may see shorter reviews much later on.

In the years since I’ve started this block, I’ve grown as a blog to extend to topics outside of what my blog is typically known for (anime/manga). As such, my film choices likely won’t pertain to said one identifier, though I do plan to watch some anime-based films during the month.

This year, I do have a special plan for the month, which pertains to a joke that I discovered through research. Last week, I stumbled upon my old Rotten Tomatoes account, where I would rate and review films I viewed while I was still in high school (between 2009 and 2011). For my pride and your sanity, I will not link it, as some of my tastes at that time were… questionable. I’ve decided that every other day (even-numbered days), I will re-watch a film from that timeframe that made present me go, “I rated it what?!?!” Most will likely be bad films, but perhaps the old me had some refined preferences that I fail to see in my blinded, old state.

As always, I hope to see you there, and have a great day. For those interested, I also have an archive for past and present films included in this event.

Commencing the 2019 March of the Movies

For those unaware, two years ago I started an annual tradition called March of the Movies, where I watch a film every day for the month of March and write reviews for them on the blog for people to peruse. The premise will be the same as it was last year: I watch a film at any part of a particular day and will release some sort of review, whether fully detailed or comically short, in that same specific day. I promise to kick myself into writing them far before 11:59 P.M.

As a bit of a preview for what’s to come (time-wise), expect movies and reviews to be done earlier in the day on weekdays and fairly late in the day on weekends. There will be some Saturdays, specifically, where reviews won’t be too long, just so I can get out a post for that day’s film on time. All of this is with the expectation that my irl job will continue giving me the typical shifts.

Since the blog has moved to include every interest of mine as a topic for posts, I will not try and squeeze in any anime films, as I did years prior, to suit the interests of my major audience. This isn’t to say I won’t watch any anime films, as I still like anime (believe it or not), but they likely won’t be as prevalent as in the last two years of this event.

I don’t have any special plans to give this year’s March any spice compared to the other years. I’m just gonna go ahead and do it normally. I’ll pick a movie and I’ll review it. I hope to see you here in the next thirty-one days!

Commencing the 2018 Summer of Manga

Now that I have finished up the long-overdue series of Traveling Thoughts on Breath of the Wild, my attention can turn to the annual tradition of gorging myself on Eastern content. This year, a return to the printed form will be what’s on the menu, as the usual Summer of Anime moniker has shifted to the Summer of Manga. While the rules are roughly the same, I did add a little more to the total count from the last year I did this, so I should have a little more to strive for come tomorrow. For those who missed it, you can read these updated rules here.

The first title for the Summer will be everyone’s favorite adaptation to anime form, Pupa! Here’s to a successful season!

Commencing the 2018 March of the Movies

For those unaware, last year I started an annual tradition called March of the Movies, where I watch a film every day for the month of March and write reviews for them on the blog for people to peruse. This year will be no different; no gimmicks or special conditions to torture myself with. The premise will be the same as it was last year: I watch a film at any part of a particular day and will release some sort of review, whether fully detailed or comically short, in that same specific day. I promise to kick myself into writing them far before 11:59 P.M.

As this blog is primarily anime-themed, I will sprinkle some anime-esque films that interest me (expect some Ghibli and Satoshi Kon) throughout the month to hold over people less interested in my thoughts on things outside the specific medium. Some of my original purpose of creating this month-long tradition was to expand my palette of films and give me opportunity to watch things that I feel, as a fan of cinema, I should watch for the sake of legacy and differentiation. Last year, I managed to venture somewhat outside of my comfort zone (I don’t typically like horror films), but this year I want to vary it up even more. I don’t have any specific plans for what I’ll watch, but I’ve always been good at winging things.

The March will begin tomorrow with the recent release of Annihilation. I hope to see many people visit in the next 31 days!

Introducing: March of the Movies

My blog is going to become more theatrical in the coming days.

I’ve decided to change things up a tad by dedicating March entirely to movie-watching and reviewing. I’ve called it March of the Movies, because it is incredibly to the point.

Every day in March, I will watch a film and review it on the blog. Every day. The movie has to be at least an hour long to count and I will do all that I possibly can to push the reviews out at a consistently normal time (No last-minute reviews uploaded at 11:59 P.M.). As I’m not one to drop movies, the criteria for this event is a lot less strict than my own Summer of Anime block.

I will watch films of a variety of different genres, regions, and mediums. For those who only follow me for anime things, I will be sure to throw some anime films in there, as well. As for now, the only film I have planned is the debut one, The King’s Speech, which I will watch on March 1st. I will also upload a March of the Movies Archive for those interested in seeing what I plan to watch/had watched previously.

Until then!

Upcoming: 2017 Update and Expectations

Looking back on my 2016 update, I almost want to laugh at myself for my lack of effort. This year’s update post, however, will be far and away the greatest post I will ever dedicate to this blog!!!

So here is what readers can expect to see from my blog in the next 366 days:

  • Anime/Manga thoughts and reviews (Duh).
  • Video game reviews (Double duh).
  • Odes.
  • Top 10’s.
  • Review of the final book in the Underland Chronicles, followed by reviews of the Hunger Games trilogy.
  • Weekly post dedicated to reviewing a random film.
  • Opinion pieces and possible rant pieces.
  • My pick to win the Super Bowl (I have to, I’m sorry).
  • Thoughts on Youtubers (Tentative).
  • THE POWER OF EMOTIONS!
  • Short stories (Tentative).
  • Among others.

There is another thing readers can expect, which is something I’ve kept quiet about for a while. I plan to upgrade my blog from a Free Plan to a Premium Plan. For those unaware, being able to express my opinions and reviewing these different forms of media is my dream. I want to be considered a serious and professional critic. And I want my blog to be a platform I can use to get my thoughts out there; a sort of creative résumé, if you will. While I don’t know what the future holds for me, I feel it’s only responsible to put my dreams into action in any way I can, with the bare minimum being keeping myself motivated to write and interact with the community (which has been no trouble at all). A Premium Plan will get me my own domain name and a spruced up blog to further show my dedication to the craft. While my daily view count isn’t exactly “profitable” for monetization, I’m hoping someday I’ll be able to get to that point. So, in conclusion, my blog may be under construction in the coming days.

Allow me to add a wee bit of gloating to this post, as an update implies as much information as possible. I’ve noted once in the past of my dedication to losing a fair share of my bountiful belly. While I’m far from done, I’m excited to announce that I’ve hit forty pounds (18 kg. for you foreigners) lost since the end of July, bringing my current weight to 208 lbs. (~94 kg.) Turns out the secret to losing weight is vegetables and reduced portion sizes at meals, as exercising can only do so much for you if you’re balancing it out with large meals.

That’ll be all from me until next year. Thank you all for supporting my blog by reading and sharing my thoughts. Know that I am very, very appreciative of any attention I receive and am humbled by the growing amount of traffic my blog receives as time goes by. I’ll continue to work on getting as much content out as sanely possible (Once a day will probably be my limit) and I hope to read more of the community’s content, as well. Happy New Year’s, and thank you for reading!
