A few disclaimers before we move forward:

  • Traveling Thoughts is a means of putting down my thoughts in a bit-by-bit process that will eventually lead up to a formal review of the overall subject. These posts will be more personal than objective, though one should expect a good amount of both as is my personality of habit.
  • These posts will absolutely contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

This is it. The meat of the game. How juicy. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Shrines/Shrine Quests)”

If one is familiar at all with open world RPGs, they’re likely familiar with the whole “I would’ve done the main quest faster if I didn’t do all the side quests first” mindset. Breath of the Wild gives every opportunity to incorporate this mindset with plenty of side quests in each area, and outside of general areas. Whether it be important locations, stables, or random characters out and about, Link gets to do things that range from fetch quests to stealth quests to… more fetch quests. With all the preceding posts complaining about the story, the one-dimensional characters, the voice acting, and everything else attributed to the theatrical elements of Breath of the Wild, it’d be easy to assume that the side quest involving Zelda’s memories would be something I loathe. As a small aside before we begin, for those who even remember reading along this string of posts and have noticed my multiple quips about “I’ll get to ‘blank’ later” and what-not, know that I have not forgotten about these. Unfortunately, my busyness (or you could call it laziness) has made me reconsider upholding these promised future explanations. Seeing as the game has been about for over a year now and no one other than those already slightly familiar with the game will even care about my elaboration of small tidbits, I figured I could scoot my way out of creating super short posts concerning elemental rods—promised in the very first post of this specific Traveling Thoughts thread—and such. Two months later (on the nose!), I am back with this hellishly-long series on an incredibly old subject of critique, bereft of the excitement and magic contained in my first post, published 363 days ago (Two days off from a whole year… the coincidences today are scary). Don’t let that bring you down, as I will do my very best to entertain you with my personal experiences with four major challenges that make up the core of the game. Some of them are pretty straightforward and simple while others can GO TO HELL. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (The Divine Beasts)”

In addition, I won’t go over the final fight with Ganon here, either. That will be reserved for a future post regarding bosses/mini-bosses. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Hyrule Castle)”

This area isn’t even important to the game. It’s essentially a very, very, very dumbed-down version of one of Sid Meier’s Civilization games. Collect the resources, find the people, and build a community from the ground up. The real difference is that you don’t really do anything but bring the materials and the people. Some other dude does all the work off-screen. That said, you have to give this man a lot of wood. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Tarrey Town)”

I would also like to state before continuing that this post will not cover the Divine Beast or the things pertaining to its conditions for entrance.
