In November of 2015, I made a discovery that would revert my adult form back to its glorious teenage years. You didn’t have to pay to play World of Warcraft, assuming you didn’t mind playing earlier builds of it. Private servers have always been pretty common, and yet it took me years after quitting retail to realize the possibility of going back to the game that I preferred. After some searching, I stumbled upon Excalibur, a private server that had been running for over five years at the time, had a decent population, and promised a near-Blizz-like coding script. It ended up being the right decision, as while my interest in it waned as time passed by, I would never leave it for good. I elaborated my thoughts in an early 2016 post. Traveling Thoughts on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Eversong Woods)
A few disclaimers before we move forward:

Like with Azuremyst Isle, Eversong Woods has the benefit of the “new bias,” such that the area is given extra attention by developers as part of a brand new expansion designed to appeal to new and old players alike. Despite this, I don’t recall ever finding the questing area for the blood elves all that interesting or fun. It wasn’t until I matured that I came to realize just how detailed and varied Eversong Woods is. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Eversong Woods)”

If not for strong competition from Tirisfal Glades, this may very well be my favorite starting zone in the entire game. It is, by far, my favorite starting zone from a member of the Alliance. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Azuremyst Isle)”

Now that the March of the Movies block has ended, I can finally get back to writing about this gargantuan game at a relatively comfortable pace!

I was always charmed by the fact that one wakes up in a tomb with the undead race. It just feels very appropriate. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Tirisfal Glades)”

Everyone, allow me to present the most popular race in all of World of Warcraft, based on player data provided by Blizzard on a yearly basis: humans. How delightfully arrogant. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Elwynn Forest)”

Welcome to the part of Traveling Thoughts where I start to discuss things that I don’t actually have a lot of experience with. While I never made this apparent in previous posts (if I recall correctly), I was, at one point, a purely Horde player. When I first started out with the game, of course, I tried everything based on pure curiosity. When I got a groove for everything, it was basically all horde, except for the occasional draenei or gnome to spice it up. That said, compared to someone who’s never played World of Warcraft, I’ve played Alliance races quite often. Compared to what I’ve played within the Horde race, it’s a bite-size chunk of a gargantuan cookie. Continue reading “Traveling Thoughts on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Teldrassil)”

Euripedes was the first character I ever made. That remains a fact. What I tend to remember more fondly, however, is the troll mage I made sometime afterwards. I even remember the name… which was… nevermind, I don’t remember what it was. It was some vowel-heavy gobbledygook. It was the first character I leveled to the level cap within the free trial period, and I sure was impressed with myself. I don’t remember if I made that troll again once getting the full game. In the far-back year of 2006, I played World of Warcraft for the very first time. The first character I ever made was a tauren by the name of Euripedes, inspired by a character’s name from Gregor the Overlander. He was a hunter, and while I don’t recall how high of a level I got that specific iteration, I later remade him when I got the full game and was the highest-leveled character I had ever worked on to that point (mid-forties). This will be a massive undertaking. This huge MMORPG, a game in which I have spent literal years of my life playing, has quite a bit of content to it. To have this be the next topic of my Traveling Thoughts series means I’m in it for the long haul. My Breath of the Wild series took over a year to write. This will likely take longer.
